Biography:
Katherine
Pancak is Professor
in Residence of Finance
and Real Estate at
the University of Connecticut
at Stamford. Her specialties
are real estate law and
distance education. She
teaches undergraduate and
graduate courses in finance
and real estate, including
Financial Management, Personal
Finance, and Real Estate
Principles.
Professor
Pancak has been on the forefront
of using technology in the
classroom.
She incorporates an online
class site into all of her
traditional courses, not
to replace traditional learning,
but to supplement it and
to make the learning experience
more flexible for today's
students. She also developed
and taught the first
online graduate business
course for the University,
as well as an online undergraduate
course. Both of these courses
have been highly acclaimed
by students and are always
oversubscribed. The School
of Business has honored Professor
Pancak for her dedication
to her students, by naming
her the recipient of the
the 2004 and 1998 School
of Business Undergraduate
Teaching Awards and
the 2001 School of Business
Innovation in Teaching
Award.
In
addition to teaching, Professor
Pancak conducts research
on real estate law topics
and has been published in
a variety of real estate
journals and law reviews,
including the Journal
of Real Estate Research,
the Journal of
Real Estate Finance and Economics,
the Real Estate
Law Journal,
and the Boston
College Environmental Law
Review. She
is the author of Connecticut
Real Estate: Law and Practice,
Consulting Editor of Real
Estate Fundamentals,
and former President of the
Connecticut Real Estate Educators
Association.
Professor
Pancak has a distinguished
record of service to both
the University and Connecticut
real estate professional
community. She is currently
the Stamford Campus Business
School Undergraduate
Liaison, and a member
of the the Stamford Campus
Coordinating Council. She
has conducted over 30 semi-annual
Real Estate Instructors
Seminars for
Connecticut real estate prelicensing
and continuing education
instructors, “teaching
the teachers” about
real estate trends, regulatory
changes, and creative pedagogy.
She has developed numerous
instructional materials for
real estate educators, including
a two real estate courses
that won the National
Award for Best Continuing
Education Program by
the Association of Real Estate
Licensing Law Officials.
A trusted advisor
to the Connecticut Real
Estate Commission, Professor
Pancak has developed extensive
material for the state Commission,
including legal interpretations
of and policies on licensing
law issues, as well as annual
handbooks on the state licensing
law. Professor Pancak was
awarded the 2003 School of
Business Service/Outreach
Award and the 1997
Finance Department Outstanding
Service Award.
Professor Pancak received
her undergraduate degree
in Economics cum laude from
Mount Holyoke College,
and her law degree cum
laude from Boston
College Law School.
Prior to joining the University
faculty, she was a practicing
corporate real estate attorney
with the law firm of Robinson & Cole
in Connecticut.
