For Instructors

  • Using the Writing Center in Your Teaching:

The Writing Center offers one-to-one tutoring and writing workshops to support students in their writing goals. Experienced writing consultants are available by sign-up or drop-in appointments at the Writing Center, (click HERE for tutoring schedule) located in the Jeremy Richard Library. Thislocation enables UConn Stamford students to receive assistance in writing skills enhancement in an accessible location.  When students enter the Jeremy Richard Library, they should proceed towards the right corner section of the library, where they will find the Writing Center.

UConn Stamford students will be able to sign up for tutorial services at the Information Desk on the Concourse starting in the second week of the Fall '09 semester.  They also may call 251-8400 to request appointments by telephone. The Writing Center will offer appointments during the week that range from 9 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  A detailed schedule of availability will available at the Information Desk or by clicking HERE.

Please inform your students about the availability of these services at the beginning of the semester and, if appropriate, include the information within your course syllabus.

Tutors and Writing Program faculty are available to give “tutor talks” to classes to introduce students to the writing help available in the Center. We encourage faculty members to request “tutor talks” for their classes so that their students can familiarize themselves with Writing Center resources. Talks last about 5 minutes and can be scheduled for any time within the class period.

Writing workshops are offered bi-weekly on a variety of topics including brainstorming and thesis development, paper organization, grammar and sentence mechanics, and standard citation formats. Our workshops are scheduled and designed to help students throughout the term. We encourage faculty to consider integrating these workshops into their syllabus as a requirement or as extra credit, and we welcome faculty and student input in the development of new workshops.

  • How I Write: Conversations with Writers - Held in Spring Semesters

How I Write: Conversations with Writers is a series of conversations with UCONN faculty who are experienced in academic writing in their relative disciplines. All types of writing, however, are open topics for discussion. The goal of the series is to bring together these writers, UCONN students, and the Stamford community members to discuss research and writing process, and learn about how
writing is done differently and/or similarly in different areas of study.
